Voice: Two Objects, Passive Reporting

Voice: Two Objects, Passive Reporting

They have offered me a cup of coffee. (Active Voice)

I have been offered a cup of coffee. (Passive Voice)

A cup of coffee has been offered to me. (Passive Voice)

to ask (спрашивать), to offer (предлагать), to pay (платить), to show (показывать), to teach (учить), to tell (сказать)

The boss paid me my first salary last Friday. (Active Voice)

I was paid my first salary last Friday. (Passive Voice)

My first salary was paid last Friday. (Passive Voice)

The twins were born on Sunday.

Five boys have been born today.

С пассивными конструкциями мы часто используем глагол “to get” вместо глагола “to be” , например:

to get hurt (пострадать), to get invited (быть приглашенным), to get offered (быть предложенным).

Обратите внимание, что глагол “to get” не является грамматическим, поэтому отрицательный и вопросительный Passive Voice в Present Simple и Past Simple будет требовать вспомогательного глагола “do/does/did”:

Jack has got offered a new job position.

I didn’t get invited to the party last week.

Do you get hurt when you climb mountains?

I don’t like being told what to do.

She hates being taken to the circus.

He remembers being driven home after the party.

This bag needs to be mended.

I can’t afford to be taken to hospital

К таким глаголам относятся: to allege (предполагать без оснований), to believe (верить), to consider (предполагать), to expect (ожидать), to know (знать), to report (сообщать), to think (думать), to understand (понимать), to suppose (to say)

It’s known that they are good friends.

They are known to be good friends.

It’s expected that she will arrive soon.

She is expected to arrive soon.

It’s supposed to be a good restaurant = It’s said to be a good restaurant

This restaurant is supposed to be good = This restaurant is said to be good

It’s supposed to be a secret party but everyone is discussing it.

You are supposed to remember all the situations when we use the Passive Voice.
